Bucharest (ANTARA News) - Romania is interested in specific cocoa and coffee from Indonesia, Mariana Sutadi, the Indonesian ambassador to Romania, said here on Tuesday.

"There are many demands for Indonesia`s cocoa and coffee because Romanians loves to consume them," she said.

However, she said Indonesian businessmen did not yet see Romania as potential market for coffee and cocoa.

"Some of them only look the small number of Romania`s population. Indonesian should consider the 20 million Romanians as export target," the ex-deputy chief of the judicial section of the Supreme Court, said.

Previously, Mariana wrote a letter to the Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) to explore the Romanian market but until now she did not receive any response from Kadin.

So, she welcomed positively the visit of the Indonesian trade delegation which includes several Indonesian businessmen.

She said Indonesia should use Romania as a gateway to eastern-European markets such as Bulgaria, Hungary and Serbia.

"Romania has big and strategic harbor in Constanta, Black Sea, that can accommodate huge fleet," she said.

Romania`s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita reaches US$13,000.

Indonesia has exported several products such as crackers, ketchup, instant noodles, straps and cups.

Nevertheless, the products have not been exported to Romania directly, but they came from other countries.

"Even some Indonesia`s synthetic eyelashes are sold in some cosmetic shops. It surprised me," she said.

Based on the trade ministry`s data, the trade balance between Romania and Indonesia reached only US$172.7 million in 2012.

Indonesia`s export value amounted US$106.4 million and its import from Romania US$66.3 million.

Romania is the eighth largest country of the European Union by area and has the seventh largest population among the European Union with more than 20 million people.

Its capital and biggest city is Bucharest, the 11th largest city in the EU.
