"Everything has been arranged and the regulation has been signed by the president," Industry Minister MS Hidayat said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian president has signed a regulation allowing the production of Low Cost and Green Cars (LCGC) in the country.

"Everything has been arranged and the regulation has been signed by the president," Industry Minister MS Hidayat said here on Wednesday.

The decision, which was signed on May 23, is included in the government regulation (PP) No 41 of 2013, Hidayat said.

The regulation has not been officially announced but "what is important is that LCGC is allowed to be produced legally now," he said.

He said LCGC has become a mode and trend of green car which is fuel efficient and could use alternative fuels.

An event will be organized to be attended by all car makers involved in the program to produce LCGC, he said.

A number of the principals of Indonesian car makers such as Toyota have indicated interest in taking part in the production of LCGC in the country.

"I just met the president who told me that he would buy one if necessary," he said.

He said the industry ministry is preparing technical steps to follow up the government regulation.

"In principle the program is for long term implementation. As for the price, the finance ministry will set the figure," he said.

He said he wants flexibility to adopt advanced technology in security such as air bag or automatic transmission.

"We will discuss as fairly as possible that advanced technology could be adopted, not just seeking commercial gain," he said.

Point 1 (c) of chapter 3 of the government regulation No. 41 of 2013 rules that low cost and energy efficient cars are exempted from luxury sales tax .(*)
