The patient, a woman aged 39, Mrs. Suliyem, came with a complaint of uterine myomas (fibroids). "The patient had fibroids weighing more than two pounds. After conducting a thorough examination and a review of her health record, we and her family decided to remove the fibroids through a Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TLH) surgery. Laparoscopic hysterectomy, also called minimally invasive surgery, is a modern surgical technique to remove the uterus that is rapidly gaining popularity because of its Operative Laparoscopy method. It is done through several small incisions in the abdomen. The surgeon inserts a small-lighted tube (called a laparoscope) through an incision in the navel and several other small incisions are made in the abdomen to place the surgical tools needed to perform the surgery. The uterus can then be removed in small pieces through the incisions or taken out through the vagina. Compared with a traditional abdominal hysterectomy, a laparoscopic hysterectomy requires only small incisions (usually 0.5-1.5cm).
