The commitment was revealed in a meeting between Indonesian Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasan and US Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International and Scientific Affairs Kerri-Ann Jones at the former`s office here on Monday.
In the meeting Zulkifli Hasan said that the Indonesian people had begun losing their confidence in international cooperation in carbon trade.
"She (Kerri-Ann Jones) said it was indeed not easy to unite international countries. Therefore the US has expressed its commitment to increasing the cooperation," the minister said after the meeting.
The cooperation program would be immediately formulated but it would not be in the form of aid but partnership cooperation through USAID and others, he said.
Zulkifli on the occasion had also told about moratorium in new permits in primary forests and peat land as well as Indonesia`s other efforts in preserving its forests.
He said Indonesia has not only conducted forest preservation but also empowerment programs to improve the welfare of community members living around them.
Kerri-Ann meanwhile said the US and Indonesia would meet again to discuss technicalities of the cooperation.
"The next meeting will be done here in the next few days," she added.
She said the next meeting would be attended by private, non-governmental organization and governmental parties so that they could jointly find solutions of climate change problems.
She said she supported forest and environmental preservation as well as economic growth.
"The private parties could become promising partners for finding solutions for the communities living around the forests," she said.
