Semarang (ANTARA News) - Silk Air Airline has opened direct flights from Singapore to Semarang which the first flight will be launched on July 29.

"The assurance has been conveyed by Silk Air management to Central Java administration through the Culture and Toursim Agency," Head of Marketing at the Central Java Culture and Toursim Agency Trenggono said here on Thursday.

He explained the direct flight could boost the number of foreign tourists visiting the capital city of Central Java.

The official said airport in Singapore is a transit point for many foreigners from many parts of the world.

"Airport in Singapore is such a hub for airplanes from many countries," he said.

"Silk Air passengers who flew from Singapore are not only Singapore citizens," he added.

Through opening the direct flight, he further said foreigners are able to visit Semarang directly without transit in Jakarta.

The company has prepared inauguration where they will launch the first flight on July 29. Singapore Ambassador to Indonesia Anil Kumar Nayar is expected to attend the launch.

Meanwhile, Manager of Silk Air Central Java Office Larry Lim said the carrier will provide three times flight a week.

"The flights are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, by using Airbus 320 airplanes with a capacity 150 people," he said.

The Silk Air direct flight route from Singapore to Semarang is available for economic and business classes.

He was convinced the direct flight will be welcomed by consumers, despite the fact that the other route of Singapore-Solo has been opened one year ago.
