This achievement is supported by Indonesia`s investment in safety and comfort..."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Industry Ministry and the National Police confirmed their commitment to securing the nation`s vital industrial elements when both parties signed the Memorandum of Understanding in Jakarta on Wednesday.
"Safety and security are key to the country`s success. Giving people a sense of security in their country can drive the nation`s progress. Guarantees of industry security, which covers employees, will boost productivity," Industry Minister MS Hidayat said.
He noted that industry is one of the most important sectors contributing to Indonesia`s economy, comprising 21 percent of the nation`s Gross Domestic Product over the span of 5 years, with average growth of 6 percent per year.
"This achievement is supported by Indonesia`s investment in safety and comfort, in addition to other factors such as infrastructure, energy, and fiscal policies that have also contributed to the growth of industry in this era of globalization," the minister stated.
The minister expects systematic adjustments to be made to security elements by considering the investment value, land area, number of employees, and other factors. He believes such a system has been formulated through the National Police Chief`s Regulation (SKEP) No. 738/2005 on the National Vital Objects Security System.
The regulation covers the minimum hardware requirements and has assisted with securing vital security personnel and implementing an escalation system of interference.
Meanwhile, the Industry Minister`s Regulation No. 620/2012 on improving the business climate to boost the national industries` competitiveness already affects 38 companies and 10 industrial areas or vital industrial elements.
Some of these 38 companies are PT Inti Celluloseutama Indonesia, PT Dahana, PT Dirgantara Indonesia, PT Garam, PT Laju Perdana Indah, PT Toba Pulp Lestari, PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper, PT Kertas Leces, PT Indonesia Asahan Alumunium, PT Krakatau Steel, PT Smelting Co., PT Multimas Nabati Asahan, PT Nubika Jaya.
The other companies affected by the regulation are PT Smart, PT Multi Nabati Sulawesi, PT Permata Hijau Sawit, PT Sumber Indah Perkasa, PT Salim Ivo Mas Pratama, PT PAL, PT Dok Perkapalan Surabaya, PT PINDAD, PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical, PT Petrokimia Gresik, PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda, PT Pupuk Sriwijaya Palembang, PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur, PT Pupuk Kujang, PT Lafarge Cement Indonesia, PT Semen Baturaja, PT Indocement Tunggal Perkasa, PT Semen Gresik, PT Semen Padang, PT Holcim Indonesia, PT Semen Kupang, PT Semen Tonasa, PT INTI, PT LEN, and PT Indofood Sukses Makmur.
The 10 vital industrial areas are Modern Cikande Industrial Estate, East Jakarta Industrial Park, Ngoro Industrial Park I, Ngoro Industrial Park II, Medan Star Industrial Estate, Panbil Industrial Estate, East Kalimantan Industrial Estate, Medan Industrial Estate, Jababeka Industrial Estate Cikarang, and Karawang International Industrial City.
National Police Chief Gen. Timur Pradopo confirmed he would provide assistance to the Industry Ministry, and especially the industries, to shield them from potential disturbances by individuals, acts of terrorism, or protests.
"It is necessary to take preventive measures to address potential problems. Vital industry elements already boost the nation`s development and the state`s revenues, create jobs, and support the government`s activities; therefore, it is indeed necessary to ensure their security," he said.
Pradopo explained that these industry security efforts will be implemented by trained security officers.
"We are going to train our internal security officers. If necessary, we will dispatch police officers to assist. But having too many police officers out in the field is not a good idea for ensuring industry sustainability," he added.
