Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded the country`s inflation rate at 1.12 percent in August 2013.

"The inflation in August reduced compared to inflation in July, which means that efforts to control inflation has showed significant results," said BPS Chief Suryamin on Monday.

Suryamin added that although the inflation rate is lower than July 2013 at 3.29 percent, the rate is still relatively high compared to the same period in the last two years.

"August inflation was recorded at 0.93 percent and 0.95 percent in August 2012," he said.

Suryamin added that the general inflation component contributed 1.12 percent share, followed by 0.6 percent from core inflation, the government regulated price inflation accounted for 0.12 percent and the share price fluctuation is 0.4 percent.

Meanwhile, based on expenditure group, foodstuff inflation accounted for the highest share of 0.45 percent, followed by transportation, communication and financial services at 0.16 percent.

Processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco contributed 0.12 percent to inflation, followed by housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel inflation at 0.16 percent.

Furthermore, clothing group accounted for 0.13 percent inflation, and health groups also experienced 0.01 percent inflation. Meanwhile, education, recreation and sports contributed 0.09 percent to inflation.

Thus, the inflation rate from January to August 2013 reached 7.94 percent and annual inflation (YoY) reached 8.79 percent. The August core inflation is at 1.01 percent and 4.48 percent inflation (yoy).

Suryamin added that all the 66 Consumer Price Index (CPI) cities experience inflation, with the highest inflation of 6.47 percent in Sorong and 4.79 percent in Ambon, while the lowest inflation occurred in Pangkal Pinang recorded at 0.15 percent.

"Sorong experienced high inflation, contributed by the increase in prices of onion and pepper, while the price of fresh fish, vegetables and air freight rates are high in Ambon," he said.
