"The two ships are the fast type. They would be deployed to maintain security and sovereignty in Indonesia`s waters," said Minister Yusgiantoro, after the inauguration ceremony on Thursday.
Yusgiantoro considered the two ships, manufactured by PT Palindo, which have given proof of development on the country`s defence industry.
The development of main equipment of arsenal system is really important for the country, the minister said.
"An increase of the main armament system in the number is part of the our efforts to maintain security in waters. We have to bear in mind that our waters have a lot of natural wealth, biodiversity as well as to guard world heritage within it," he added.
The country, Minister said, has also many straits and area of waters which have already been ship routes for other countries so that the waters` maximum security is needed.
"The manufacturing of two ships contributed a lot to the development of Navy," he pointed out.
KRI Pari-849 and KRI KRI Sembilang 850 were made of marine grade aluminum, and manufactured in Indonesia by local engineers.
The manufacturer of each ship spent Rp75 billion.
KRI Pari-849 would strengthen Unit Boat of Command Patrol in Eastern Indonesia, while KRI Sembilang RI-850 would be deployed in the western region in area of Lantamal II Palembang.
