"We consider the perpetrator was likely trained in using firearms," said Insp. Gen. Ronny F. Sompie, National Police spokesman.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Police revealed that Second Brig. Sukardi was most likely shot dead by a trained gunman, late on Tuesday (Sept 10), in front of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) headquarters, South Jakarta.
"We consider the perpetrator was likely trained in using firearms," said Insp. Gen. Ronny F. Sompie, National Police spokesman, when asked to comment here on Wednesday.
Second Brig. Sukardi, who was riding his motorbike at the time, shot several times at his shoulder, chest and abdomen.
Before the deadly shooting, Sukardi was escorting six trucks carrying construction materials from Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta.
Witnesses saw there were three men in two motorcycles in front of Sukardi when the incident happened.
National Police spokesman said police officers were still analyzing Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) that had recorded the incident.
Police had also questioned eleven witnesses and examined the bullet shells and projectiles. The eleven witnesses were taken to Jakarta Metropolitan Police Station for questioning.
"We would sketch the perpetrators` faces, after those process" said Sompie.
Sompie said the police has not found yet any correlation between the fatal attack and a recent row of attacks that killed some police officers last month.
Meanwhile, The Indonesian Police Watch (IPW) had recorded five mysterious shooting cases targeting police officers in Indonesia.
Last month two police officers were shot dead by unknown men, in Pondok Aren on Jakarta`s outskirt.
Ironically, the shootings of police officers have yet to be revealed until now, whereas shootings, beatings, and stabbings to police personnel still occur, IPW Chairman, Neta S. Pane said.(*)
