"This conflict can be resolved only through peaceful means," Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is worried about the armed conflict in Zamboanga, southern Philippines.
"As a neighboring country and a facilitator to achieve the 1996 Final Peace Agreement between the Philippine government and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), Indonesia has urged all parties to exercise restraint and ensure the safety and security of civilians," said Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa on Friday.
Marty emphasised that both sides should resolve their differences peacefully.
"This conflict can be resolved only through peaceful means," added Marty.
The Indonesian government also stressed that efforts to find peaceful solutions will be based on agreements signed by both the parties, as stated in the 1996 Final Peace Agreement.
The comprehensive 1996 Final Peace Agreement provides a foundation for solving problems in southern Philippines in a fair, comprehensive, and sustainable manner, said the minister.
"The Indonesian government is always prepared for demands from both the parties and is keen to bring peace to the southern part of the Philippines," added Marty.(*)
