Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian rupiah currency gained 25 points to close at Rp11,595 per dollar on Tuesday evening on speculations that the US Federal Reserve will continue its economic stimulus policy.

The rupiah traded at Rp11,595 per dollar in the Jakarta interbank market on Tuesday evening against Rp11,620 per dollar the day before.

The dollar tended to weaken against the majority of global currencies on speculations that the US still needed monetary stimulus to improve its economy, said Ariston Tjendra, chief researcher of Monex Investindo Futures.

"At a meeting with the Congress on November 14, Vice Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve Janet Yellen hinted that he would defend the quantitative easing (QE) program until the US economy shows signs of strong recovery," he said.

Chinas reform policy which shored up expectation of continued economic growth momentum would hopefully have a positive impact on the Asian currencies, he said.

Market analyst Ruly Nova of Bank Himpunan Saudara said concern about the performance of the countrys trade balance cast a shadow on the rupiahs exchange rate against the dollar.

"The trade balance still records a deficit though it has made improvements. On the other hand, the Indonesian economy is also still slowing down," he said.(*)
