This is the first time I have watched a live performance by KJM."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Kyoto Jazz Massive (KJM) gave an electrifying performance at the Jazz Goes to Campus festival held at the University of Indonesia (UI) in Depok, West Java, on December 1.
A Japanese (Kyoto-based) band, KJM, performed seven energetic jazz songs, starting with "No Cross No Crown" and ending with "Spirit of Love," which mesmerized the crowds, who repeatedly clapped their hands in the air to show their appreciation.
So entranced were the crowds by the music that they didnt even care about the pouring rains during the 45-minute performance.
They were enchanted by Okino Shuyas techno music, which he dubbed "jazztronik," and his brother Okino Yoshihiros percussion performance. The band collaborated with two other jazz artistes, Vanessa and Tasita.
"This is the first time I have watched a live performance by KJM. I never managed to watch them even once when I was in Japan. I am lucky to have seen them perform in Indonesia," said Megumi Watanabe, a Japanese expatriate who works and lives in Jakarta.
Besides KJM, Depapepe, another Japanese artiste who plays the guitar, performed at Jazz Goes to Campus 2013. Several Indonesian jazz musicians, such as Idang Rasjidi, Syaharani, Barry Likumahua and Tompi, also participated in the festival.
Performances were held on four stages, with fans choosing which performances they wanted to watch.
The theme of this years Jazz Goes to Campus was "Jazz It Your Way." It aimed to introduce jazz expressions and interpretations of the music to the community, especially students.
The Jazz Goes to Campus is an annual event organized by the Economic Faculty of UI since 1977. More than one thousand tickets were sold in advance sales.
