West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - Floods inundated hundreds of houses and an elementary school building in the Suka Makmur Gerung Village in the West Lombok District of the West Nusa Tenggara Province, after the Babak River started overflowing on Thursday.

The flood waters height reached 100 centimeters and it also washed away two residences belonging to Amaq Junaedi and Mashul.

The flood water also washed away some semi permanent houses and swept garbage, as well as tree branches.

"The flooding also resulted in stopping traffic access for several hours in the morning from Mataram City to the Lombok International Airport in Praya of Central Lombok," said an evacuee volunteer Moch Asri.

He added that traffic access could only be restored at 10:00 a.m. after the flood waters had receded from a height of 60 centimeters to 25 centimeters.

Another volunteer, Sukamrin, reported that the flood waters had receded from 100 centimeters to 30 centimeters in the afternoon.

"We hope that more heavy rain does not flood the Babak River further as this will help people return immediately to their houses," said Sukamrin.

The floods also washed away several livestock, but no casualties were reported.
