Any kind of relief, both logistics and evacuation, should be prepared and planned well in advance."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta Governor, Joko Widodo or Jokowi, instructed the staff of the Jakarta Provincial Administration to prepare the logistics to handle flooding as the water levels at the Katulampa Sluice had reached second grade alert.

"The people were informed that the water levels at the Katulampa Sluice gate had reached the Alert-II. So, I instruct all the staff to be ready to handle the situation," Jokowi stated at the City Hall, Jakarta, on Friday.

Jokowi pointed out that all the necessary logistics should be prepared at the earliest, in the wake of any likely flooding, so as to ensure timely evacuations and efficient disbursal of relief items.

"Any kind of relief, both logistics and evacuation, should be prepared and planned well in advance," he noted.

He added that the Pluit Reservoir in North Jakarta can still hold up to 1.2 million cubic meters of water and dredging is still in progress.

"There are six excavators dredging the Pluit Reservoir, so that it can continue to hold water up to 1.2 million cubic meters," he explained.

He further claimed that the Meruya and Kembangan areas still face the possibility of flooding, as the normalization work on the Angke and Pesanggrahan Rivers are still not complete.

"The normalization process often faces some technical and non-technical obstacles such as the relocation of the residents," he remarked.
