Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Rupiah lost more value against the US dollar in interbank transaction on Tuesday.

The currency traded at the level of 12,200 per US dollar weakening from 12,183 earlier.

Chief researcher of Investindo Futures, Ariston Tjendra said the dollar strengthening was slightly curbed on report of US economic growth was lower than expected while the Fed was considering further trimming of its monthly bond buying program.

"The US manufacturing index fell below expectation in Janaury," Ariston said.

However, generally the US economyc is believed to grow at a fairly good rate, he said.

Financial market analyst from Bank Mandiri, Renny Eka Putri, said the Indonesian trade surplus of US$1.52 billion in December helped ease the pressure on rupiah. (*)
