Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - Police in Riau province have arrested three Malaysians on charges of being involved in an international narcotic syndicate, a spokesman said.

"The three suspects are identified by their initials as MN bin MS, AR bin AD, and MA bin AH," chief of the drug detective unit at the Bengkalis district police Adj. Comr. Willy Kartamanah said here on Monday.

They were arrested on Friday at around 02.00 p.m. local time while staying at the house of a resident in Deluk village, Bantan sub-district, Bengkalis district, he said.

The police also arrested a resident of Jangkang village suspected of being part of the network, he said.

"They (the suspects) admitted that they have twice entered Bengkalis via the Jangkang tributary. They arrived in Jangkang on Thursday (Feb 6). The police also seized 4.59 grams of heroin, 1 ounce of crystal methamphetamine (sabu-sabu) and 3.2 grams of hashish," he said.

In addition, he said the police also confiscated a speed boat and money worth 1,000 ringgits.

"Right now the three Malaysian nationals and a resident of Bengkalis district are being held in custody at the Bengkalis district police station for questioning," he said.(*)
