The meeting aims to provide capacity building support for the Palestinians."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to meet with the King of Jordan King Abdullah II Ibn Al - Hussein on February 26, 2014.
The Special Staff of the President of the International Relations Teuku Faizasyah stated that Jordan is an important country for Indonesia, with a population of approximately 23 million people, strategically located in the Middle East.
"Indonesia and Jordan have since long had a historical relationship and opened diplomatic relations in 1950," Faizasyah clarified.
Indonesia and Jordan have had close ties in economic, defense and social culture.
"The Jordan kings visit will provide an excellent opportunity to strengthen and broaden the range of bilateral cooperation with Indonesia," Faizasyah elaborated.
The Jordan king will also attend the Multaqa Sufi meeting, in Jakarta, organized by the The Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU), a large Islamic council in Indonesia.
Besides meeting the King of Jordan, the President is also scheduled to meet Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah on February 28.
"On Saturday, March 1, the President will host an international conference for Palestinians," pointed out Faiza.
The meeting will be jointly chaired by Indonesia, Japan and Palestine within the framework of Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development, CEAPAD.
"The meeting aims to provide capacity building support for the Palestinians. Participating countries are expected to contribute concretely to the development of the capacity of agriculture, tourism, telecommunications and information technology and manufacturing," explained Faiza.
