The ship carrying 100 sailors and a helicopter will supervise the cease fire between Lebanon and Israel.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian naval ship, KRI Frans Kaisiepo, was sent to Lebanon, on Friday, to join the Maritime Task Force to carry out the UN Security Council Resolution(UNSCR) or the peace mission to strengthen regional security.

The ship grouped in the Garuda XXVIII-F/UNIFIL Contingent was dispatched in a military ceremony led by Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Marsetio representing Defense Forces Commander General Moeldoko, here on Friday.

The KRI Kaisiepo-368 is scheduled to serve a period of ten months, including eight months in the area of maritime operations in Lebanon.

This is the second mission of the ship in Lebanon, after the one it had successfully carried out in 2010.

Admiral Marsetio explained that the mission of the ship was monitoring Lebanons waters, stretching 180 kilometers, to prevent any entry of illegal weapons and explosive materials into the waters.

The Garunda XXVIII Contingent Task Force will carry out the mission along with the contingents from other countries such as Italy, Turkey, and Bangladesh.

Marsetio emphasized that before carrying out the mission, all the personnel of the task force have been provided the requisite training with regard to military, technical, and tactical moves, command and control, communication, and other knowledge, including local cultures and human rights.

All the personnel involved in the KRI Kaisiepo have been chosen through a selection process.

Admiral Marsetio remarked that the task force was the sixth one sent to carry out a peace mission.

KRI Frans Kaisiepo is commanded by Lt Col Ade Nanno Suwardi, who is also the commander of the Garuda Contingent XXVIII Maritime Task Force/UNIFIL 2014.

In the past four years, the Indonesian navy has sent four warships to join the Maritime Task Force/United Interim Force in Lebanon.(*)
