Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The rupiah value fell against the US dollar in interbank-transactions on Monday morning.

The Indonesian currency traded at the level of 11,633 per dollar in the opening trade weakening from 11,578 earlier.

Chief researcher of Monex Investindo Futures, Ariston Tjendra, said rupiah tended to weaken as investors began to hesitate to keep risky currencies.

"Investors have to watch out that speculative market players might any time release their rupiah they bought earlier if regional currencies began to fall," he said.

However, technically in long term rupiah will gain though curbed by external factors, he said.

Chief Analyst of PT Platon Niaga Futures ,Lukman Leong, said rupiah was still relatively stable with expectation of better economic prospects to be announced by the Central Statistic Agency (BPS) on Monday.

The pressure on rupiah would not last long, especially political condition in the country is favorable ahead of the legislative election next month, Lukman said.(*)
