Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia condemns the March 1 terror attack in Kunming railway station, Yunan province, China that killed 28 people and injured 140 others, according to the statement received here, from Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry on Thursday.

"The Indonesian government offers condolences and sympathy toward the government of China and the family of the victims. The terror attack reminds us, the international community, that terrorism is still a threat to the peace and security in the world," the statement noted.

The Indonesian government also pledged its commitment to cooperate with China in fighting terrorism. Earlier, the Xinhua news agency reported that 28 civilians were confirmed dead and 113 others injured in the terror attack at Kunming railway station in southwest China on March 1.

It was an organized, premeditated violent terrorist attack, according to the authorities. The authorities also clarified that five suspects were shot dead but their identities have not been confirmed as yet. Chinas President Xi Jinping has urged the law enforcement authorities to investigate and solve the case to punish the terrorists in accordance with the law.

A group of knife-wielding people attacked the Kunming Railway Station in the capital of southwest Chinas Yunnan Province at around 9 p.m., causing death and injuries, pointed out the city police.

The Kunming Railway Station, located in the southeastern area of the city, is one of the largest railway stations in southwest China. It was put into operation in 1958.(*)
