"Another patient from Bukittinggi was admitted in the M Djamil general hospital at around 5.30 p. m.," the hospitals chief of public relations Gustavianof said here on Thursday.
The new patient named Nuru, aged 77, was suspected to have been infected with the MERS virus after she developed fever, cough and breathing troubles, following her return from a minor hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
She, along with 21 others in her group, had gone for a pilgrimage to Mecca and Medinah.
She had suffered from a fever, since she was in Medinah. She had a fever for two days and was placed at a hotel before being taken to the hospital.
"After that, my mothers condition improved, and she was able to conduct the tawaf rite at Baitullah, but then she had a relapse of fever and finally was taken to the nearest hospital there," her son, Salman, aged 60, said.
Nurus conditions worsened and her fever continued for a week. "Yesterday, my mother was treated in the hospital in Bukittinggi, but doctors said she had MERS and so on Thursday she was referred to the M Djamil hospital," he said.
The hospital at present is treating two other patients, who are also suspected to have been infected with the MERS virus.
On Thursday afternoon, a patient named Zabinar, aged 86, from Pariaman was admitted to the hospital on suspicion of being infected with the MERS virus after visiting a camel husbandry site and a horse race field in Qatar, while on a visit to the region for a minor hajj pilgrimage. (*)
