Ministry of Communication and Informatics had blocked user access to the website Vimeo.com after receiving complaints from the people that the website hosts pornographic content.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Communication and Informatics Ministry is still awaiting a response from the representative of video-sharing website Vimeo.com following the Indonesian governments request that the site disable pornographic content from being accessed by Indonesian users.

"As of now, we have not yet received a formal answer from the representative of Vimeo," spokesman to the ministry Ismail Cawidu stated here on Friday.

It was earlier reported that the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Informatics had blocked user access to the website Vimeo.com after receiving complaints from the people that the website hosts pornographic content.

"It (the blockade) is not permanent, we will wait until the management of the site shows effort to block or remove all porn videos that can be accessed by Indonesian users," Ismail reiterated.

He admitted that Vimeo and Indonesia had differences in defining pornography. However, the Indonesian government will continue to block any website that violates the Indonesian anti-pornography and information law.

"This is the regulation in Indonesia. If the content in the website violates Indonesian law, we will firmly block it (the website)," Ismail emphasized.

The spokesman also noted that the government had blocked Vimeo after having received reports from the people. According to data revealed by the ministry, as of April 9, 2014, 131 internet domains have been reported to have pornography content. The people can report about such domains through the internet filtering software, Trust+, which is used by the Communication and Informatics Ministry. (*)
