Jet fighters such as Sukhoi, F-16 and BAE Hawk flew in several maneuvers and spewed tens of bombs on a ground target in the Karang Tekok exercise range in the district.
According to the exercise mission data, the jet fighters were following up on attacks by Indonesian Navy destroyer ships and the Marine Artillery Squad on targets on the Banongan Coast of Situbondo.
The Indonesian Air Force also deployed the new jet fighters bought from South Korea, the T-50 Golden Eagle, during the exercise.
Soldiers from the Indonesian military rappelled from helicopters into areas that cannot be entered by land transport. Jet fighters were assigned the mission of covering the soldiers deployment from the helicopters.
Marine and Army tanks attacked the enemys headquarters based on the simulation, followed by the infantry.
Army helicopters such as Mi-35 and Bolco also assisted the deployed soldiers on the range by shooting rockets to create cover fire.
The drill, which was completed at 11:30 a.m., was attended by several Indonesian military and government officials including Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro; Indonesian Military Commander General Moeldoko; Chiefs of Staff from the Indonesian Army, Navy and Air Force; and some military officials from neighboring countries.
Minister Purnomo praised the soldiers who completed the military exercise. (*)
