... president is the holder of the people's mandate that should carry out the task of implementing the Constitution... "Padang (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said corruption courts have handled hundreds of corruption cases so far in the country.
The anti graft agency which was established in 2004 had saved the state a total loss of Rp248.89 trillion from the cases, its deputy chairman Bambang Widjojanto said.
Around Rp197.39 trillion of the losses were recovered through confiscation and Rp51.50 trillion are in potential losses saved through preventive measures,Bambang Widjojanto said in this West Sumatra capital on Thursday.
The fund would be enough to build 2.5 million units of low cost houses for low income people or 22.6 billion liters of milk needed by the countrys under nourished children or to pay the education of 429 elementary school children for a year or to buy 29.3 billion kilograms of rice for the poor," he said .
He said it sad to see the rampant cases of corruption in the country involving officials of all state officials both from the legislative, judicature and executive bodies as well as community members including business people.
"Corruption committed by high ranking state officials concerns public policy and decision in various aspects of life. The perpetrators include those highly educated , fairly rich and religious," he said.
He said the coming president of the country should address the problem seriously making a home work the fight against corruption.
"A president is the holder of the people's mandate that should carry out the task of implementing the Constitution," he said.
KPK will continue to spread the optimism and to develop hope that the presidential election to take place on July 9 would turn out a president whose interest is only for the welfare of the people.
"Therefore, fighting corruption should be high on the agenda of the new president," he added.
