The contingent was seen off in a ceremony in the Indonesia Olympic Committees (KOIs) office in Jakarta, on Monday by its chief, Rita Subowo, and Deputy IV of Sports and Youth Ministry Djoko Pekik Irianto.
In the first YOG held in Singapore four years ago, Indonesia sent only 12 athletes to the international multi-sport event held by the International Olympic Committee.
"We are now having 27 athletes. This is a significant increase. We hope (that the participation of) more athletes will bring more medals," KOI Chief Rita Subowo emphasized.
Indonesia only won a bronze medal in weightlifting at the first YOG.
However, the competition between under-18 athletes in the Nanjing YOG will be tough, Rita pointed out.
"The Satlak Prima (a task force in charge of preparing athletes for the games) and the boards of sports associations had prepared the athletes well. Therefore, we are optimistic that the athletes sent to the YOG will give their best shot," Rita stated.
Rita noted that the sporting events with the highest potential to bag medals for Indonesia were weightlifting and beach volley, among several others.
Deputy IV Djoko Pekik was also optimistic that the contingent will bring more medals for the country from the YOG.
The Sports and Youth Ministry allocated around Rp three billion for the accommodation of Indonesian athletes during their stay in China for competing in the YOG.
