Semarang, C Java (ANTARA News) - The Indonesia Democratic Party - Struggle (PDIP) congratulated Prabowo Subianto as the newly elected general chairman of the Gerindra Party to replace Suhardi, who passed away on August 28, 2014.

"As secretary general of the PDIP, I congratulate Pak (Mr) Prabowo, who was elected general chairman of Gerindra because he is our partner," PDIP secretary general Tjahjo Kumolo said on the sidelines of the partys national working meeting here on Saturday.

Tjahyo further said that the relationship between the PDIP and Gerindra was going well and there has been no problem. Both the parties had even cooperated in supporting presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2009 polls.

"Pak (Mr) Prabowo with his Gerindra Party is our partner as well as part of the larger PDIP family, so lets build this nation in the spirit of togetherness and mutual support," Tjahjo said.

Prabowo Subianto was unanimously elected as general chairman of Gerindra in an extraordinary congress in Bogor on Saturday.

In July 2014, Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Hatta Rajasa, and Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and his running mate Jusuf Kalla participated in the presidential election.

The general election commission (KPU) had later declared Joko Widodo (Jokowi)-Jusuf Kalla as having won the poll.(*)
