Jokowi made the statement in light of the escalating tensions among members of the House of Representatives (DPR).Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked all local governments in Indonesia to carry on with their duties and not worry about the current political situation.
He made this statement in light of the escalating tensions among members of the House of Representatives (DPR).
"I told governors and heads of regional police forces that there is no problem. This (political situation) is part of the dynamic and usual processes of the DPR. Governing bodies need not worry about it as it will be resolved soon," Jokowi said at the State Palace here on Tuesday.
The president added that the order he delivered to the heads of regional governments was reiterated to guests from Indonesias partner countries.
"Every time foreign guests or investors visit Indonesia, they mention that they worry about our political condition. I tell them, as well, that there is no problem," he stated.
Since his inauguration on October 20, President Jokowi received several leaders of states and foreign envoys, including Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. On Monday (November 3), he received Germany Foreign Affairs Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi.
The issue of Indonesian political tensions was triggered by the presence of two coalitions in the DPR---the Merah-Putih (Red-White) Coalition and the Indonesia Hebat (Great Indonesia) Coalition.
Both coalitions are competing to form the majority in the parliament by taking hold of the chairmans position in the DPR, Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR) and Regional Representatives Council (DPD).
The strain in the parliament has also been a cause for concern for the public, as well as for investors. They are worried about the progress of the Indonesian governments work.(*)
