"I am already old. I will give a chance to younger cadres to run for presidency," Ical said.
Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA News) - The General Chairman of the Golkar Party Aburizal Bakrie has assured that he will not run for presidency in 2019.

"I am already old. I will give a chance to younger cadres to run for presidency," he said after the 9th National Congress of the Golkar Party held in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Wednesday.

He also vowed to give younger cadres a chance to become members of the partys executive board under his leadership from 2014 to 2019.

The Golkar Party has a long time to groom its cadres to become national leaders, he remarked.

Popularly known as Ical, Bakrie was re-elected as the general chairman of the Golkar Party for the 2014-2019 term.

The congress also decided to retain Akbar Tanjung as the chairman of the partys advisory council for the next five years.

Both Bakrie and Tanjung deserve to chair the party, which came in second in the 2014 general elections.

Moreover, Chairman of the Golkar Partys Executive Board in Bali province, I Ketut Sudikerta, expressed hope that the two leaders will be able to unite party cadres.

"Under the leadership of Ical in the last five years, Golkar made a lot of progress. I believe the party will make even more progress in the future," he affirmed.

Sudikerta also appealed to Golkar cadres to unite for the sake of progress of both the party and the nation as a whole.(*)
