"One person, MS, has been named suspect while 11 others have been released as no strong evidence could be gathered against them," head of the National Polices Public Relations Division Inspector General Ronny F Sompie said here on Wednesday.
MS has been held for his alleged involvement in a terrorism network, he noted. "He has been accused of once sheltering Durlmatin, who was the leader of a terrorist group and is dead now, and Umar Patek. He had also been involved in a terrorist training camp in Ambon," he added.
MS had just been released after a jail sentence for his involvement in CIMB Niaga Bank robbery in Medan, North Sumatra, which was linked to terrorism.
The proceeds from the robbery was allegedly used for financing terrorism activities.
Although not involved in any crime, MS has been held to prevent him from repeating his past activities.
MS is one of the 12 Indonesian citizens who were intercepted by the Malaysian police in Kuala Lumpur recently when they were attempting to cross over to Syria.
When asked about the source of financial support for their journey, Sompie said the matter was being investigated.
The Malaysian police intercepted the group on December 2 and held them until December 14 before deporting them to Indonesia on December 15.
He said the group had left for Kuala Lumpur from Surabaya, East Java, and was planning to proceed to Syria through Turkey, reportedly to join ISIS.
The members of the group hailed from Surabaya, Magetan district, Blitar district in East Java, and Kutai Kartanegara in East Kalimantan. ***1***
