Vice President Public & Government Relations PT. Rimba Raya Conservation, Nisa Jalil, said, "From the very beginning of our operation, PT RRC has socialized to the community that we will involve the local community living around our work area in terms of the provision of the seeds which will be used for the replanting program. In other words, the community will have additional income from the purchase of the seeds by PT RRC."
She continued that the replanting program involving the local community is not limited to the purchase of the tree seeds, the community is also given task to plant the seeds in the replanting program area. Beside getting paid, the people involved in the replanting program can also learn how to help conserve the environment.
Recently, PT RRC purhased 43,152 various kinds of seeds, such as jelutong, blangiran, coffee, and melaleuca cajuputi which were provided by community of Ulak Batu village, Danau Sembuluh subregency, Seruyan regency, Central Kalimantan - one of 10 partner villages of PT RRC. PT RRC purchased the seeds for Rp. 4000/seed, which will then be planted in the north side of PT RRC's work area - part of Ulak Batu village territory.
"In near future, PT RRC will conduct another purchase of a various kinds of plant seeds for other replanting programs. 115.000 seeds of which were provided by the community of Blanti village, Muara Dua sub-village. After passing the selection process, and with the minimum 40 cm of height, we finally obtained 94.000 qualified seeds and closed the deal of Rp. 4000/seed," Nisa Jalil concluded.
In the meantime, CEO of PT RRC, Djonni Andhella, conveyed that all 94.000 seeds will be used for the replanting program in Tatahji and Tathdian districts, in Muara Dua village, which is adjacent to the Tanjung Puting National Park, Central Kalimantan.
