Bambang Soelistyo said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The rescue workers have discovered parts of AirAsia Flight QZ8501s tail in the additional priority area, Chief of Indonesias Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) F.H. Bambang Soelistyo said.
"This discovery has been confirmed," he told journalists here Wednesday in a press briefing on the latest development of the Basarnas-led search mission to find victims and fuselage of the ill-fated jet.
Soelistyo said the tail of the aircraft carrying 162 people on board that crashed in the waters of Karimata Strait near Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan Province, on December 28, 2014 was not found in the first priority area.
Instead, parts of the aircrafts tail were recovered in the "second additional priority sector", he said.
A massive search mission has been launched since the day of the deadly crash occurred. Indonesia is assisted by such countries as Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, the United States, China, Japan, and Russia.(*)
