Indonesia condemns the shooting at the editorial room of Charlie Habdo in Paris."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government has condemned the attack by an armed group on the building and employees of Charlie Habdo in Paris on Wednesday that have left 12 people dead.
"The Indonesian government expressed deep condolences to the government and the people of France especially the families of the victims," it said in a press statement received by ANTARA News here on Thursday.
The Indonesian government never condoned any kind of violence and supported the French governments efforts to arrest and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Foreign minister Retno LP Marsudi in an annual speech at the foreign ministry on Thursday also expressed Indonesias condemnation of the armed attack.
"Indonesia condemns the shooting at the editorial room of Charlie Habdo in Paris," she said.
Although none of the victims in the incident were from Indonesia, the Indonesian government has appealed to citizens who are now in France to avoid centers of activities and contact the embassy in Paris or the consulate general in Marseille in case they need help.
The Indonesian embassy in Paris has also asked Indonesians who are in France for studying or as tourists to increase alertness and remain watchful.
It has also asked parents to keep monitoring their children, embassy political attache Arifi Saiman said to ANTARA News on Wednesday night.
Due to the incident the French government has imposed a highest alert status for Ile-de-France, he said.
The French police are currently hunting for the perpetrators who are still at large after fleeing by car following their deadly attack on top French cartoonists and police offices.
The French police have distributed pictures of the suspects known as Said Kouachi, Cherif Kouachi and Hamyd Mourad.
The identities of the suspects are known after one of them was left on the exit door of their car.
