For us the meeting between two leaders was good ..."Mataram (ANTARA News) - Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Agus Hermanto said he appreciated Thursdays meeting between President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and his former political rival Prabowo Subianto amid the political tension triggered by conflict between police and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
The meeting between the two national leaders was "a bright spot" in the countrys efforts to solve its present problem," Agus Hermanto said here on Friday.
The meeting between two leaders deserve appreciation from all parties as a good signal to bring an end to the conflicts, he said.
Prabowo and Jokowi represented two big opposing political factions before and after the presidential election, which was won by Jokowi.
Prabowo said after the meeting in Bogor he gave full support for former political adversay.
He said met Jokowi to report that Indonesia has emerged victors at an international championships of Pencak Silat, an Indonesian art of self defense.
Few, however, would believed that Prabowo would meet Jokowi on such petty issue when Jokowi is facing a political dilemma in the country.
Currently, Jokowi has been in difficult position after his choice of candidate Comr. Gen Budi Gunawan to replace police chief Gen. Sutarman was named a corruption suspect by KPK.
KPKs announcement about Budi Gunawan came a day before the Parliament held the standard procedure of fit and proper test for Budi Gunawan.
The conflict was worse after a few days later police arrested Bambang Widjajanto, a deputy chairman of KPK naming hims a suspect on charge of false testimony in a Constitutional Court session in 2010, when Bambang was a lawyer.
The meeting between Jokowi and Prabowo is seen as a good signal ending sharp political rivalry and would help the KPK-police conflict cool down.
"For us the meeting between two leaders was good and could bring about relaxation to the conflict," Agus from the Democrat party faction which voted for Prabowo in the election.
He said he hoped the meeting between Jokowi and Prabowo should be followed with meetings between the president and other national leaders that the problem besetting the nation could be sorted out immediately.
He said as a parliament leader he fully supports President Jokowi is settling the national problems especially the KPK-police conflict.
"We believe Jokowi still has the capacity to sort out the problem between KPK and police," he said.
