Despite the improvement of Indonesian human development index, yet the total achievement is still below Malaysia`s and Thailand`s development indexes.Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Health Minister Nila Farid Moeloek said the Indonesian Human Development Index has improved to 7.3 from the previous 4 points.
"The nutritional intake of its younger generation must be improved in order to save the country. The reliable younger generation must start from the improvement of its nutritional intake," Nila said here on Sunday.
The Minister made the remarks when addressing a seminar entitled: "The Roles of Universities in Implementing National Movement to Improve Nutrition" held at the Hasanuddin University of Makassar.
Despite the improvement of Indonesian human development index, yet the total achievement is still below Malaysias and Thailands development indexes.
Nila said Indonesia still needed to make efforts to improve the nutritional intake of the people.
According to Nila, the total obesity cases in Indonesia are also increasing which become a challenge to achieve a better value of conditional conditions.
Minister Nila said another problem faced to achieve better nutritional condition is the anemia cases which mostly occurred with pregnant women and toddlers.
Additionally, the Rector of Hasanuddin University Prof Dr Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu said her institution has initiated efforts to help improve the younger generations nutrition condition.
"Our program is deploying students to provide assistance regarding nutritional intake of children in their first 1,000 days of life," Dwia said.
The Rector said the 1,000 day period determines the nutritional condition of the nations generation.(*)
