Fuel consumption will decline by some 1.5 million kiloliters this year, after PLN`s generators in the North Sumatra provincial capital of Medan switched to using gas.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) aims to slash its fuel consumption by 21 percent to 5.7 million kiloliters in 2015 from 7.2 million kiloliters in 2014.

"In 2015, fuel consumption will decline to 5.7 million kiloliters," Chief of PLNs Fuel Oil and Gas Division, Suryadi Mardjoeki, said here on Thursday.

Fuel consumption will decline by some 1.5 million kiloliters this year, after PLNs generators in the North Sumatra provincial capital of Medan switched to using gas, he explained.

The generators in Medan are expected halve their fuel consumption to 1.5 million kiloliters this year from 3 million kiloliters last year, he stated.

Fuel consumption in Java and Bali will also fall by around 100 thousand kiloliters, after the gas-fueled power plant (PLTG) in Benoa and the thermal power plant (PLTU) in Celukan Bawang, Bali, come into operation.

PLTG Benoa and PLTU Celukan Bawang will commence operation by mid-2015, and consequently, fuel consumption in the Java-Bali grids will fall to 400 to 500 thousand kiloliters from 900 thousand kiloliters, Mardjoeki pointed out.

On the contrary, gas consumption is expected to increase to 475 trillion British thermal units (TBTU) from 450 trillion TBTU in 2014, he affirmed.

Furthermore, at a meeting on Wednesday night, both the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) agreed to set electricity subsidy at Rp66.15 trillion.(*)
