"We did it not only at around 200 outlets in East Java but also at around 10 thousand outlets across the country," corporate communication general manager Nur Rachman stated here on Thursday.
He explained that the action was taken following the issuance of Trade Ministers Regulation Number 6/2015 that prohibits the sale of alcoholic drinks with alcohol content below five percent at mini-markets or retail shops.
He noted that so far, Alfamart had already begun withdrawing the beverages from its outlets in stages. "Nationally, it has been done since early April," he explained.
He said that ever since the issuance of the regulation in January, Alfarmart had already begun implementing the regulation. "We have stopped giving orders to alcoholic drinks suppliers," he affirmed.
Hence, in the past three months until the regulation becomes effective as of April 16, Alfamart had only exhausted its remaining stocks.
He emphasized that the company has set a target to completely stop the sale of alcoholic drinks at its outlets.(*)
