Indonesia seeks Beijing`s support to recover assets of Bank Century

Beijing (ANTARA News) - Jakarta has asked for support from Beijing to recover assets of scandal hit Bank Century from a bank in Hong Kong.

The assets are deposited at the bank under the names of Rafat Ali Rizvi, Hesham Al-Warraq, Robert Tantular, former shareholders of Bank Century.

The bank shareholders robbed the banks funds including those belonged to the public depositors.

Indonesian Law and Human Right Minister Yasona Laoly made the request at a meeting with Chinese Attorney General Cao Jianming during his visit here last week, a spokesman of the Indonesian embassy in Beijing, Sugeng Wahono, said on Tuesday.

Last year, the Indonesian government succeeded in recovering part the assets valued at US$4,076,121 based on an order form a Hong Kong court.

The legal case of most of assets at the Hong Kong High Court is not yet final.

The assets of Bank Century were known to be deposited in banks in 14 countries including Hong Kong, Singapore, Switzerland and Britain.(*)
