The foreign citizens are allegedly involved in crimes against their fellow citizens in China and Taiwan.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta Police arrested another 30 Chinese and Taiwanese nationals in a housing and office complex in North Jakarta on grounds of immigration violation.
"The police officers arrested the foreign nationals as they failed to meet the immigration requirements," Director General of Criminal Investigation Jakarta Police Commissioner Heru Pranoto stated when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Heru pointed out that the officers had conducted a raid at the expatriates shelter.
Based on information, the police and immigration officers raided dozens of residences of Chinese and Taiwanese nationals at the Elang Laut Boulevard housing and office complex, Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta, on Tuesday morning.
The foreign citizens are allegedly involved in crimes against their fellow citizens in China and Taiwan.
Currently, the officers are still collecting the immigration documents of these foreigners.
The Jakarta Police had also earlier raided a house in Jalan Kenanga No. 44 RT 02/07 Cilandak Timur Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (May 6), at around 8 p.m. local time.
The house was inhabited by 34 Chinese residents comprising 14 women and 20 men.
The police suspect that the foreigners are part of a cybercrime syndicate involved in conducting online fraud and were targeting fellow Chinese citizens residing in mainland China.
The police also suspect that some foreign nationals in the vicinity had been victims of human trafficking.
During the raid conducted on Wednesday, in South Jakarta, a man Siau Pei (25) reportedly died while attempting to escape from the police by jumping out of a second floor window.(*)
