Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The construction of Jatigede reservoir in Sumedang, West Java, should be completed soon with the settlement of land acquisition problems, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) remarked.

"The development of Jatigede reservoir has not been completed due to land acquisition problems," the president noted here on Thursday.

The head of state remarked that the construction of Jatigede reservoir will have a significant impact on the progress in Sumedang.

"Therefore, land acquisition and its impacts should be calculated," the president emphasized.

The meeting was attended by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Sofyan Djalil, State Secretary Minister Pratikno, Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Ferry Musyidan Baldan, National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Head Andrinof Chaniago, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto, Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro, and West Java Governor Ahmad Heriyawan.

Jatigede reservoir is being built by the government in Sumedang, West Java.

The reservoir was built by damming the flow of Cimanuk River in Jatigede District, Sumedang regency.

The water from the reservoir will be used for irrigation purposes and for generating electricity at the hydroelectric power plant (PLTA).

The water collected in the reservoir will be used to irrigate agricultural land in the districts of Majalengka, Indramayu, and Cirebon.

The reservoir provides water to PLTA in Parakan Kondang.

The water from the reservoir will cover an area of 147 hectares belonging to the community. Since May 2015, of the 147 hectares, a total of 137 hectares has been acquired, and the remaining 10 hectares will be acquired soon.
