On June 30th, William Lu, the President of Gionee handed over the cheque of Rs 5,000,000 to Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.
"Gionee feels huge sorrow and sympathy for the victims of the tragic earthquake," said William Lu. "We have being working to help Nepal cope with the quake and its aftermath."
The Prime Minister Sushil Koirala expressed his gratitude towards Gionee for supporting Nepal in its time of need. And he praised Gionee, a Chinese enterprise that has created many job opportunities for the local Nepalese.
Gionee entered Nepal last September and has opened more than 600 retail stores all over the country. Now it ranks top 5 in Nepal's mobile phone market, and it aims to be number 1 in 2017, according to William Lu.
Gionee also set up Gionee Sahayogi Haat Kosh Foundation and deposited Rs 500,000 to initiate the fund. It has been used to build 25 temporary houses for the earthquake victims at Bhaktapur and Gionee will help to build more temporary houses in the next months.
In addition, for every smartphone sold in Nepal in the next 3 months, 50 Rupees will be donated to the local orphanage Bal Mandir. The amount raised in this fund will go towards supporting children who have lost their parents in the recent earthquake.
To date, Gionee has donated 5.6 million rupees to Nepal for the earthquake relief.
