The community can provide any information to BIN."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Head of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) Sutiyoso will modernize and enhance the agencys equipment to face future challenges.

"We should have sophisticated equipment to compete with foreign intelligence services. The lack of modern equipment is a technical problem that I cannot explain in detail," Sutiyoso stated after his inauguration as BIN chief at the State Palace here on Wednesday.

To modernize BINs equipment, Sutiyoso plans to import tools from several countries that have advanced equipment, which can help to improve BINs performance.

"I will import the equipment from a variety of references. We will take a cue from developed countries such as Russia, America, and so on, as they are also part of an international intelligence community," he affirmed.

The modernization process will be gradually carried out in phases based on the availability of the state budget.

Sutiyoso will build a formidable and professional intelligence agency to face future challenges.

He vowed to improve BINs organizational structure by enhancing the capabilities of its human resources and equipment.

"The BIN should have advanced equipment in order to combat and anticipate radicalism and terrorism through the Internet and communications technology," he remarked.

In addition, Sutiyoso stated that the BIN will be more open to gathering comprehensive information from various sources.

"The community can provide any information to BIN," he said.

Sutiyoso is a retired military official posted as deputy commander general of the Armys Special Force Command (Kopassus). Following his retirement, Sutiyoso headed the Jakarta Provincial Government for two terms between 2002 and 2012 before he was replaced by Fauzi Bowo.

Earlier, all political party factions of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) agreed to accept retired Army Lieutenant General Sutiyoso here on Tuesday as the next chief of the BIN.

"Ten factions gave their statements after we heard Sutiyosos vision, mission, and programs and studied them," Chairman of Commission I Mahfudz Siddiq stated during an internal meeting of the commission.

He revealed that the Hanura and Nasdem factions had agreed with notes that Sutiyoso must improve communication channels and coordination with the DPR.

The PPP faction also agreed with notes that the new BIN chief must have the courage to provide inputs to President Joko Widodo with regard to national interests.

"The PKS accepted him with a note that the DPR has internal supervision, which will be further enhanced. The PKB and PAN factions accepted him, as well," he stated.

Siddiq further noted that the Democratic Party faction also gave its approval to Sutiyoso hoping that the new BIN chief will ensure better coordination from the agency.

The party faction also reminded Sutiyoso to uphold BINs neutrality, so that it does not get trapped in the web of partisanship.

Moreover, the Golkar Party faction accepted Sutiyoso with three notes: the new BIN chief must increase cooperation with the DPR; he must ensure that the president will pay heed to BINs recommendations while formulating policies in order to prevent errors; and he must alter his style of communication.

"The PDIP faction accepted him completely and supported him with notes that urge him to respect the law on the intelligence agency and to work in the best interests of the state rather than specific groups," he remarked.

Siddiq affirmed that all notes and factors that Commission I took into account will be discussed at a plenary session to deliver DPRs final decision.
