"Looking at the social and economic capital we have, an opportunity for Indonesia to become a developed and prosperous country is actually wide open," Jokowi said in his State of the Nation Address before the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR) Annual Plenary Session 2015 here on Friday.
The president explained that the Republic of Indonesia has big, and creative population with greater middle class communities.
In addition, he said Indonesia has democratic political system, moderate Muslim community, and as the 16th economic power in the world with gross domestic product revenue of about Rp10 thousand trillion dollars.
"With hard-work, optimism, and by changing consumptive paradigm to productive one, we will be dignified among the nations of the world," he said.
Former Culture and Education Minister Daoed Joesoef in the 1978-1983 period also said the national development was very important and should be oriented not only to economic aspect alone but also to the people.
"The error that occurred was that the national development was transformed into economic development," Daoed said during a cultural seminar organized by Suluh Nuswantara Bakti Foundation in Jakarta on Saturday.
Therefore, he noted that the national development should not solely be oriented to economic development, but also to the citizens.(*)
