Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and First Lady Iriana Jokowi took their grandchildren to Prambanan Temple in Sleman, Yogyakarta, on the weekend to promote the educational tourism destination.

The President visited Prambanan Temple with his eldest son Gibran Rakabuming Raka, his daughter-in-law Selvi Ananda, and his two grandchildren Jan Ethes Sinarendra and La Lembah Manah.

The family had the head of the cultural preservation center for region X at the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry, Manggar Sari, as a tour guide, who explained the history of the temple.

The President's eldest grandson, Sinarendra, listened intently to the information she shared.

"This is the biggest one," Sari said as she pointed to the Shiva Temple, which stood 47 meters tall.

The Head of State also stepped into one of the temples with his grandkids to take a better look at the engravings.

The presence of President Widodo’s family garnered visitors' attention; they had not expected to see the head of state there.

"I never thought that during the study tour, there would be Mr. Jokowi," a visitor named Amelia said.

The Prambanan Temple Tourism Park is among the favorite destinations of people during holidays.

Widodo has consistently urged officials, both at the central and regional levels, to promote domestic tourism in order to boost the potential of Indonesia's tourist destinations.

"Once again, please compel the people, Mr. Governors, Mr. Heads of District, Mr. Mayors, to just go on vacation domestically," the President had said while issuing directives to leaders of ministries and institutions in the Cabinet, regional leaders, leaders of state-owned enterprises, regional military commanders, regional police chiefs, and chief prosecutors at the Jakarta Convention Center in mid-September 2022.
