Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) Ministry has launched an AI Center of Excellence to support the development of digital talents and expand the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the country.

“The AI Center of Excellence is expected to help ensure that AI technology delivers greater benefits to the Indonesian public,” Komdigi Deputy Minister Nezar Patria said during the opening of the center in South Jakarta on Friday.

He noted that the center was developed through collaboration between the government, universities, industry, and communities, with technology companies such as Nvidia, Cisco, and Indosat also contributing to the project.

“By involving key stakeholders, we present this center as part of our efforts to accelerate national digital transformation,” Patria emphasized, adding that the center’s operations have been tailored to Indonesia’s needs.

He informed that the center’s computing power will be accessible to support research and the adoption of AI in business and a wide range of public services.

The deputy minister added the center would serve as a platform for domestic and global collaboration to spur innovation.

He further said that the digital tech hub is also expected to help advance the National AI Road Map, which lays out the government’s goals for creating an enabling environment for developing and testing AI prototypes in priority sectors.

The road map also covers plans to organize AI-related training and certification, he added.

Furthermore, Patria underscored the government’s commitment to financially supporting AI start-ups and backing the establishment of companies that are capable of leveraging AI to strengthen sectors such as education, health, and agriculture.

He added that the government is planning to hold talks to develop frameworks and regulations on AI use in Indonesia.
