“We need around 12 million digital talents by 2030. Currently, we can only supply around 3 million. This has been gathered from various ecosystems. Therefore, we need to accelerate various talent development programs,” he added during a focused group discussion (FGD) here on Thursday.
He informed that the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is currently implementing a number of programs to build the capacity of digital talents, such as the Digital Talent Scholarship program and Digital Leadership Academy.
Its latest measure has been the establishment of an AI Talent Factory, a training and development ecosystem for human resources (HR), specifically in the AI sector, that involves collaboration with global technology companies, universities, and national strategic partners.
“This AI Talent Factory will not only produce experts, but also support the development of a national AI computing cluster, including the provision of infrastructure such as reliable data centers and adequate computing power,” he said.
However, Patria cautioned that Indonesia is still facing several key challenges, such as the availability of digital infrastructure, data governance and security, and collaboration between the government and the private sector in driving innovation.
“Research and development (R&D) is key. We must strengthen our innovation efforts to be able to compete globally. AI isn’t just about statistics and numbers; it’s about how we create solutions, reshape industries, and improve people’s quality of life,” he said.
Based on the ministry’s data, there is high public enthusiasm surrounding the use of AI technology.
Around 80 percent of the public is optimistic of AI having a positive impact on the daily life and the future development of the digital economy.
