Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta, Riau Islands, and Yogyakarta will have a surplus of digital talent by 2030, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs projects.

Based on communication and IT graduate data, the surpluses of individuals who possess the specialized skills and knowledge necessary to thrive and innovate in a digital-first environment are expected to reach 225,014 in Jakarta, 28,496 in Riau Islands, and 42,446 in Yogyakarta, the ministry stated.

According to the ministry’s Human Resources Development Agency head, Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto, digital talent growth is closely tied to the expansion of the digital industry.

Jakarta and Riau Islands have already recorded surpluses in 2024—75,020 and 8,310, respectively—while Yogyakarta is projected to follow in 2026.

Pudjianto noted that Java Island’s stronger infrastructure, digital literacy, and workforce quality contribute to its higher talent growth.

However, he acknowledged continuing talent gaps across much of the country.

To address this, the government is expanding capacity-building programs in collaboration with universities and tech companies.

“Success depends on collaboration,” Pudjianto emphasized.

He added that the digital industry's growth will continue to boost talent supply.

By 2030, Indonesia is expected to have 9.3 million digital talents—still short of the estimated 12 million needed to meet industry demand.
