“It is true that we are witnessing a wave of layoffs, but our projection indicates that we can expect to see the emergence of 67 thousand new jobs before the end of the year,” he informed at the International Conference on Infrastructure 2025 in Jakarta on Thursday.
He said that this increase in employment opportunities is expected to come from two renowned global textile companies planning to relocate their facilities to Indonesia.
Without specifying the companies, Pandjaitan emphasized that Indonesia remains a highly attractive destination for companies seeking a more favorable business environment, especially amid current global conditions.
Elaborating on the planned relocation, the DEN leader informed that it would focus on smaller, less developed regions to support the government’s push for equitable economic development.
At least 60,481 jobs are expected to open at 10 factories in several parts of Central Java province, including Brebes, Boyolali, Demak, Slawi, Batang, Tegal, and Pekalongan, he said.

Meanwhile, 11 factories located in West Java province’s Cirebon, Majalengka, Subang, Purwakarta, Karawang, Cimahi, and Bekasi are expected to generate a total of 5,469 employment opportunities, he added.
Two other factories in Banten Province—in Serang and Tangerang—are projected to add a combined 1,520 jobs, he said.
Additionally, one factory in East Java is expected to absorb approximately 400 workers.
The Ministry of Manpower has reported a total of 26,455 employment terminations as of May 20, 2025, most of them from Central Java, Jakarta, and Riau Provinces.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) recorded 73,992 cases between January 1 and March 10, based on data on workers who terminated their subscriptions with the Social Security Agency for Workers (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) during the period.
