Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Kuta Police on Thursday revealed the roles of two foreign nationals from Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan in the attempted robbery of two money changer employees in Kuta, Bali.

The suspects have been identified as Evgeniy Victorovich Pak (EVP) from Uzbekistan and Taccoddin Fazil Oglu Tajaddin Hajiyep (TH) from Azerbaijan, Kuta Police Chief, Commissioner Agus Riwayanto Diputra said at a press conference.

“Both of them pretended to exchange money. The suspect, TH, contacted the victim, and EVP posed as an Interpol agent to deceive them,” he explained.

The two suspects attempted to rob two money changer employees at Aura Segara Villa, Tuban, Badung, Bali, on July 27, 2025, but were stopped by nearby residents and police.

According to the investigation, TH contacted a money changer via Telegram, requesting the current USDT (cryptocurrency) exchange rate and asking that the cash be delivered to the villa.

The money changer then dispatched two employees to the address provided by TH.

Initially, TH asked to exchange 9,700 USDT for Rp153 million (US$9,060), but later increased the amount to Rp191 million (US$11,310).

Upon arriving at Aura Segara Villa, the employees, identified as F and E, met with TH, who invited them inside. After they finished counting the money, EVP, wearing a helmet and a mask, entered the room and claimed to be an Interpol agent.

EVP immediately tried to strangle F, while TH attacked E, Commissioner Diputra said.

E managed to escape and ran for help. The suspects attempted to flee on a black N-Max motorcycle. Local residents gave chase, during which TH fell off the motorcycle, scattering the stolen money on the road.

EVP was later arrested at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport by a joint team from the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office and the police while attempting to flee to Bangkok with his girlfriend on July 28.

Both suspects have been charged under Article 365 paragraph (2) of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) concerning theft with violence, which carries a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.
