Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Immigration Supervision and Enforcement Directorate of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) arrested 103 foreign nationals in Bali on suspicion of abusing immigration permits and committing cybercrimes.

"There are 14 Taiwanese citizens, while the identities of the others are not yet known. Officers are currently still investigating," Director General of Immigration, Silmy Karim, noted in a statement from the immigration directorate received in Jakarta, Thursday.

He explained that hundreds of foreigners were arrested in the Bali Becik operation on Wednesday (June 26).

Karim remarked that the immigration routinely conducted surveillance operations at all immigration offices across Indonesia, thereby reflecting its commitment to monitoring foreigners in the country.

"Crimes committed by foreigners are one of the criminal acts that we often encounter in the field. With foreigner surveillance operations like this, immigration also supports the Online Gambling Eradication Task Force," he remarked.

Furthermore, Director of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement, Safar Muhammad Godam, explained that the Bali Becik operation, in which 103 foreigners were arrested, was conducted on Wednesday (June 26) starting at 10 a.m. local time.

He noted that part of the immigration team conducted closed operations to monitor a villa in Marga Sub-district, Tabanan District, Bali. At around 2 p.m. local time, a tip-off was received of foreign activity at the location.

"At 5 p.m. local time, we succeeded in arresting 103 foreigners consisting of 12 women and 91 men," Godam remarked.

Godam suspected that the foreigners were abusing their residence permits. Moreover, immigration is currently investigating the alleged cybercrimes they committed based on the evidence that has been secured.

"They are suspected of not having documents and misusing immigration permits, and currently, the possibility of cybercrime is being investigated based on the number of computers and cellphones found at the scene," Godam revealed.

He noted that at around 6 p.m. local time, the Bali Becik surveillance operations team took into custody all the foreigners along with the evidence.

They will undergo examination and be placed temporarily at the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center, Bali.
