The Australian national, who has been identified by the initials as LAK, was reportedly attacked with a sharp weapon.
"The incident of persecution occurred and currently the case is still being handled by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kuta Police and the Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit," head of the public relations department of the Denpasar Police, Adjunct Commissioner Ketut Sukadi, said in Denpasar on Tuesday.
He informed that the alleged attack occurred at the Fox & Rabbit Bar and Restaurant in Kuta, Badung, around 9 p.m. local time on July 14.
Based on preliminary data collected by investigators, the alleged attacker was also an Australian national, who has been identified by his initials as NAH.
The case was reported to Kuta Police by a bar employee identified as Kadek Hari Surya Adnyana.
After receiving the report, head of the Kuta Police Station, Commissioner Yogie Pramagita, and his staff went to the crime scene and conducted an investigation.
So far, officers have examined several witnesses, including Adnyana and others, at the crime scene. LAK is currently undergoing intensive treatment at the hospital.
"The victim is currently undergoing intensive treatment at the BMC Kuta Hospital, Badung, due to a stab wound with a sharp weapon in the left abdomen," Sukadi informed.
He said that the whereabouts of the perpetrator are still being investigated by police.
Based on the police report, LAK and his alleged attacker NAH came to the restaurant together and drank alcohol. Not long after, the two got into an argument, which led to LAK being stabbed with a sharp object.
"Currently, the police are carrying out an intensive investigation into the case and have examined three witnesses," Sukadi added.
